While some children may be a part of the system for a brief time, while others may last a few or even several years. After growing out and leaving the system, the lives of kids aren’t the same, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it's better. The oppression, assault, and/or trauma they faced in the system remains with them. Most live in poverty or homelessness. The government severs kids from their families to provide them a safe, secure environment that they were denied from the homes they were in. The system is designed to be a temporary fix for children who were abused or neglected by their parents or in the homes they were in.

Neglect and abuse sever children from their biological homes and families, and the government places the child in the foster care system. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) are responsible for providing children a stable, secure environment where they may feel at home and be granted the acceptance and care they were denied in their previous home. However, most children end up in a foster home that introduces them to more abuse at the hands of people who vowed to provide shelter. Foster homes can provide a variety of unsafe environments, ranging from substance abuse to sexual abuse, for children who seek safety and stability. The foster care system is a corrupt organization, accountable for nefarious acts towards minors.

Minors are entered into the foster care system to be extracted from potentially dangerous situations at home. Whether the circumstances involve neglect from biological parents, abuse, orphanage, etc., the system vows to protect and care for kids. However, when children are admitted into the system, they become victims of the corrupt foster care system. Minors experience traumatic experiences, from being removed from their homes to being abused by people who swear to care for them. They face difficulties such as assault, abuse, trauma, and cases that go as traumatic as sex trafficking. The foster care system proves to be corrupt and requires reform, where minors could reside in a safe, secure domain.
